Journalist Parry Bellot has died

Nature Isle News (NIN) has just received news that journalist and businessman Parry Bellot has died at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital.

He was in his 70s and was a patient at the hospital for the past week and was said to be recuperating. News of his death comes as a complete surprise. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Bellot, who began his journalism career in 1976 and was the publisher of the Link news magazine that first appeared here in 1977.

Bellot, served as Press Secretary to the Dame Eugenia Charles administration in the 1980’s and as a consultant to the Roosevelt Skerrit government, was a founding member of the Dominica Media and Communications Association.

Just a few months, the outspoken public figure had threatened to file a lawsuit against the opposition Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) for alleged defamation.

Bellot is survived by his wife, Claudia, and children.

He was also a columnist and popular caller to various radio call-in programmes on the island.

We at NIN extend condolences to his wife Claudia and his extended family. May he rest in peace.
