“Mrs. Green-Brown was a media icon, a distinguished and outstanding announcer, a true Dominican legend, and a great family woman”-President of Dominica Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton

Roseau, Dominica, August 2, 2024 – The dreadful news of the sudden passing of my beloved cousin, Mrs. Shermaine Green-Brown, on the afternoon of Thursday, 1st August 2024 at a hospital in Miami, came as a great shock and saddened me immensely.

Mrs. Green-Brown was a media icon, a distinguished and outstanding announcer, a true Dominican legend, and a great family woman, who dedicated most of her life here on earth to broadcasting journalism and the service of mankind.  She was employed at the nation’s station, DBS, for over four (4) decades and held several positions over her long and distinguished career to include Programme Director and Acting General Manager.

Mrs. Green-Brown had a very close relationship with the Office of the President having served as Public Relations Officer of the President’s Charities Foundation until she was forced to resign on the 5th day of August 2019 due to personal circumstances.  She was a founding member of the Foundation and gave fifteen (15) years of selfless, loyal, committed, and unparalleled service. She migrated to Miami in 2017 and kept in constant contact with the Office of the President, inquiring about the operation of the Foundation, and giving her in-kind and financial contributions to whatever activities that the Foundation hosted. Mrs. Green-Brown stayed on as an Honorary Member of the Foundation until her passing.

Everyone who knew and interacted with Mrs. Green-Brown will remember her as a very kind, loving, gentle, cheerful, energetic, hardworking, meticulous, and exceptional individual, who gave her very best to whatever task she discharged.  She will also be remembered for her very pleasant and captivating voice and her indispensable contributions in the areas of communication and broadcasting.

My husband Gilbert and Members of the President’s Charities Foundation, join me in conveying to her bereaved husband Paul, her children, her mother, her siblings, her relatives and loved ones, the Board of Directors/Management and Staff of DBS Radio, the media fraternity, and to all those at home and abroad who mourn her passing, our deepest condolences on this painful loss and very sad occasion.

The sudden passing of Mrs. Green-Brown will certainly leave a great void in the lives of her immediate and extended family and close friends; in the lives of those whom she served and worked with and in the media fraternity, and which will linger for a very long time.

Shermaine will be greatly missed.

May her soul rest in eternal peace and may she be greeted by our Lord and Savior with those words: welcome my good and faithful servant.

May we honour Shermaine’s memory by emulating the fine legacy that she has left behind.
