The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the host Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica will host the Regional Training Course on Mutation Induction and Mutation Breeding.
The training is to be held in Dominica from 16 to 20 September 2024 at the One Mile Science and Technology Complex, within the framework of the IAEA technical cooperation project RLA7027, entitled “Applying Nuclear Technology in Agriculture, Water Resource Management and the Environment in Caribbean Member States (CARICOM)”.
The Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries Blue and Green Economy has been accepted and has agreed to host a prestigious event.
Plant mutation breeding, also called variation breeding, is a method that uses physical radiation or chemical means to induce spontaneous genetic variation in plants to develop new crop varieties. The regional training course will expose participants to both the theoretical and practical aspects of Mutation Breeding, facilitated by two (2) international experts from the IAEA.
