Government to sign Contract with ACE Engineering for New Citrus Certification facility

PRESS RELEASE

Roseau, Dominica – [January 9, 2025] – The Government of Dominica through the
Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy is pleased to announce the signing of a EC$7.9 MILLION contract with local civil engineering contracting firm, ACE Engineering, for the construction of a new Citrus Certification Facility in Woodford Hill on Friday, January 10 th 2025 at 10.00 am the Ministry of Finance Conference Room.

This strategic initiative is a component of the Emergency Agricultural Livelihoods
and Climate Resilience Project (EALCRP), to restore the agricultural sector and agricultural livelihoods post Hurricane Maria, and aims to enhance the quality and safety of citrus production in Dominica, ensuring that local produce from propagated planting material meets international standards and access global markets.

The facility will be located in Woodford Hill Agricultural Station and is expected to significantly boost the citrus industry by providing essential certificated materials to farmers. The Citrus Certification Facility will offer comprehensive testing and certification
services, ensuring that products meet the stringent requirements.

It will also provide training and resources for farmers to improve their cultivation practices,
enhancing the overall quality of citrus products in the country. ACE Engineering, established in 1997 is renowned for infrastructural projects, and will oversee the construction of the facility to include the construction of the service building (Potting House) and general site improvements such as the installation of perimeter security fencing, gates, and site grading among others works.
The Ministry of Agriculture is dedicated to fostering a thriving agricultural sector
and is excited to see the positive impact this facility will have on farmers and the
economy.
