BREAKING NEWS-Politician Julius Timothy has died after a long battle with illness

ROSEAU, DOMINICA, Oct 19, 2025- Julius C. Timothy, one of the founding members of the United Workers Party (UWP) who crossed the floor to join the ranks of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) after a power struggle within the UWP, died on October 18, 2025, after a long battle with illness. He was aged 67.

He was the Deputy Leader of the party since its establishment until December 2005. When the UWP was the ruling party in Dominica, Timothy was made the Minister of Finance, Industry, and Planning from 1995 to 2000 under the government of Prime Minister Edison James.

He was also Deputy Prime Minister in the UWP administration.

He was also a Member of Parliament for the Roseau North constituency during this period.

Following the power tussle in 2005, Timothy left the UWP in 2006 and joined the Dominica Labour Party (DLP), where he rose to become the vice-president of the party.

The DLP gave him the portfolio of Urban Renewal Ministry in 2009, and he also won the Roseau North seat in 2009 on the DLP ticket.

Born in 1958, Julius Timothy attended St. Mary’s Academy and obtained his MBA from the University of the West Indies. In 1969, he won the Inter Scholastic Debate and the junior table tennis championship.

He worked with Coopers & Lybrand, an auditing firm, for 7 years and rose to become the assistant manager. He later became the managing director and major shareholder of AC Shillingford. He served as President of the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) and also President of the Roseau Co-operative Credit Union. He was Chairman of Dominica Stevedores Limited and also Chairman of the Dominica Agricultural Marketing Board.

He was appointed as the Minister of Health by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, and in January 2016, he became a director on the board of the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL). Also in 2016, he was appointed a Non-Resident Ambassador to Mexico by PM Skerrit.
