AG recommends Senior Magistrate Emanuel to serve as Chief Magistrate

The country’s Magistracy could soon have permanent leadership after more than two years, as Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin has recommended Senior Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel to fill the Chief Magistrate position.

The recommendation, which follows the conclusion of Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason’s contract, has been forwarded to the Judicial and Legal Service Commission for formal confirmation.

“Serious considerations were given to recommending Ngaio Emanuel to be the new Chief Magistrate. But you know that takes time to be processed, and I’m certain once that is done, that she’ll be appointed as the new Chief Magistrate,” the Legal Affairs Minister said.

Speaking on the appointment, Sir Steadroy praised Magistrate Emanuel’s qualifications and track record, describing her as exceptionally suited for the role.
