CWI President Shallow faces calls to resign

Veteran cricket commentator Joseph “Reds” Perreira is urging Cricket West Indies (CWI) President Dr. Kishore Shallow to resign following his successful election as a Member of Parliament in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Dr. Shallow secured the North Leewards seat for the New Democratic Party (NDP) in last Thursday’s general elections, prompting Perreira to call on him to “do the honourable thing” and step down from his cricket administration role.

While the CWI constitution does not explicitly prohibit a president from holding political office, Perreira argues that the principles of good governance suggest Dr. Shallow should vacate his current position.

Perreira believes the organization’s vice-president would be expected to assume the acting presidency if Dr. Shallow were to resign.

The commentator also used this opportunity to emphasize his perspective on the need for a generational transition in West Indies cricket’s leadership. “Cricket requires fresh perspectives and leadership that can fully commit to the organization’s development,” Perreira stated.

As of now, Dr. Shallow has not publicly commented on his intentions regarding the CWI presidency. The potential leadership transition comes at a critical time for regional cricket administration.

The situation raises important questions about the compatibility of political and sporting administrative roles, and the potential conflicts of interest that might arise from holding multiple high-profile positions simultaneously.
