Update on United States visa restrictions on Dominican nationals

PRESS RELEASE

Roseau, Dominica – December 19, 2025 — The Government of Dominica continues its
engagement with the United States Embassy in Bridgetown and the State Department in Washington, in an effort to reverse a decision announced by the White House to impose partial travel restrictions on Dominican nationals, effective January 1, 2026.

Following the White House announcement, the Government of Dominica, through the Office
The Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Dominica’s Embassy in Washington initiated immediate discussions with officials at the US Embassy in Bridgetown and the State Department in Washington, D.C., with a view to obtaining clarification of the level of the restrictions and their scope. The Hon. Prime Minister mandated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Dominica in Washington, D.C., to coordinate responses, monitor
developments, and guide the way forward.

The Government of Dominica is pleased to inform the public that, following extensive
exchanges, it has received confirmation that Dominican nationals who hold valid U.S. Visas,
including tourists, businesspeople, students, and other categories, can travel to the US and its territories as is customary, corresponding to the purpose of travel. This clarification reaffirms “Building a Resilient Public Service: A Collective Response” the continuity of lawful travel in accordance with U.S. immigration laws and entry requirements.

The Government is committed to working closely with U.S. authorities at all levels to advance these discussions, with the hope of reversing all restrictions affecting Dominican nationals as outlined in the Proclamation. The government also remains steadfast in its pursuit to protect the interests of Dominican citizens and to ensure that accurate information is provided to the public. The public can be assured that updates will be issued as they become available.
