Police in Dominica say they are actively investigating a case of “suspected drowning in the community of Calibishie.”
According to a report from the police, “On Thursday 23rd July 2026 about 9:30 pm, the body of 35-year-old John Fabien of Calibishie was recovered from the sea at Ti-Baptiste. Preliminary investigation indicates that while spearfishing with companions at Baptiste, Fabien reportedly experienced distress and submerged beneath the water.
“The Calibishie Police, assisted by members of the community, searched and recovered Fabien’s body near the shoreline at Ti Baptiste. Fabien was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical doctor. His body has been taken to a funeral home pending a postmortem. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Fabien’s death are ongoing,” the police stated.
The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
Fabien is a former national cricketer and also a cricket coach.
