As a means of therapy after the inactivity and anxiety brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the leading football academies on the island will seek to inspire confidence and bring joy to some young faces this summer.
The Newtown Juvenile Football Academy (NJFA), which has been in existence for well over 25 years, will this summer host a football clinic, which will incorporate, not only football but life skills as well.
The two weeks summer football enhancement program, which will run from 28th July 2020 to 8th August 2020, will be facilitated by coaches attached to the NJFA.
The program will involve both theoretical and practical sessions and will begin at 9:00 am and end at 1:00 pm daily. Theoretical sessions are carded to be held at the Newtown Primary School while the youngsters will be engaged in the practical sessions at the Newtown Savannah.
Coach and organizer of the event, Albert “Wang” Titre explains that the program holds many benefits for the participants since quite a few objectives will be achieved.
“In addition to releasing stress, the young players will improve their knowledge and skills in the game of football. They will also improve their knowledge of the laws governing the game.
“They will also develop public speaking skills and broaden their knowledge of Dominica’s history and develop and appreciate the contributions made by legends of Dominica’s football,” he stated.
According to Coach Titre, the coaches are hoping to provide participants with a memorable experience in this COVID-19 era and still observe all protocols as outlined by the Ministry of Health.
