ICWI gives two scholarships

Insurance Company of the West Indies (ICWI) has come to the aid of two students who were successful at this year’s Grade Six National Assessment Examinations.

At a brief function at the company’s head office in Roseau, General Manager of ICWI Earl Edwards handed a cheque to Dinari Samuel and Orlando Birmingham two former students of the St. Mary’s Primary to attend the St. Mary’s Academy (SMA) come the new school year opening September 7, 2020.

“For us it is indeed a great pleasure to make this contribution, having opened business in Dominica in less than one year and we are pleased to be able to assist those two students to attend secondary school for the next five years with less financial hassle,” Edwards said.

He disclosed that from December 2019 when preparing their budget that was top on their agenda. “They come at an annual cost of two thousand dollars each and we do not expect this to be our last…as the years progress we will be making more scholarships available,” he stated.

“You the two students, who are receiving the awards, are part of the history making of the ICWI in Dominica, and I hope that you don’t take it for granted, you now need to invest your time and energy in your school work and make everyone proud.”

He also urged the parents to give full support and encourage the students over the next five years. Alex Birmingham father of Orlando and Sandra Samuel mother of Dinari expressed gratitude to ICWI for considering their son and pledged to give full support to their students. They also thanked the company for the scholarship.

In expressing gratitude Dinari Samuel and Orlando Birmingham thanked God for his blessings and promised the company that they will work hard to make the ICWI proud.
