Dominica continues to record new cases of COVID-19 since the reopening of its borders. At a press briefing of the Ministry of Health (MOF) National Epidemiologist Dr. Shalaudin Ahmed confirmed that the country has recorded two further new cases.
“Dominica has recorded two further cases of COVID-19, that brings the total number of cases to 24. These cases are imported cases and not contacts of previous cases, one is a 59- year old female and the other is a 35-year old male,” he said.
According to him, these individuals have been in isolation since their arrival in Dominica on September 5th, 2020 as a result of positive rapid testing done on arrival on the island.
He explained that subsequently PCR testing was done to confirm and presently they are asymptomatic and have been admitted to the COVID facility.
“Contact tracing is ongoing and so far six direct contacts have been identified from these two individuals, these contacts have been isolated and will be swabbed on September 10, 2020. Additional 14 contacts of case number 4 are now negative on PCR testing,” he stated.
Total number of COVID-19 cases 24, with active COVID cases now standing at six (6).
