BPW Dominica congratulates Dominica on the occasion of the 43rd Anniversary of Independence

My Dear Fellow Citizens,

It is a matter of great joy for me, on behalf of my fellow Executive Members and Members of the Business and Professional Women (BPW Dominica) to wish all Dominicans, those living both here and abroad, a very Happy Independence Day!

This day has a special significance as it marks the beginning of the 43rd year of our beautiful nation’s independence.

Today we bow in respect to the great men and women who performed heroic deeds and made our freedom possible.

Although this year’s celebration may have been reduced due to the pandemic, yet our hearts remain always filled with enthusiasm.

Similar to previous years, this Independence day is extremely monumental as we are emerging from yet another darkness. We are emerging from a year of pandemic and isolation; a year of pain, fear, and heartbreaking loss.

I speak for all my BPW sisters when I say that we share the grief of all the affected families with the same intensity.

We use this occasion to pay special tribute to our corona warriors, the doctors, nurses and health workers, administrators, and others, who have all risked everything to contain the impact of this pandemic. We also say hats off to you the citizens who continue to adhere and follow the safety protocol and urge you to continue doing just that.

Amidst the deadly outbreak of COVID-19, we strongly believe that Hope is Strength.

We acknowledge that we still have a long way to go in realizing the dreams of those who won the freedom for us. We are all indebted to our national heroes who made this country what it is today. As patriotic citizens, let’s put extra effort into performing our civic responsibilities. Our diversity should not be seen as a weakness but as our greatest strength. It is only by working together that we can build a resilient and thriving nation. Let us continue to undertake new actions through cooperation as we collectively develop our beautiful island.

May this Independence Day bring fortune and success for each and every one of us. May our country see more progress in the coming years! Happy Independence Day!

Sincerely Diane Blanford

President of BPW Dominica
