The Ministry of Education has taken the decision to temporarily close the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School (ITSS) after a teacher at that school tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
Health and Ministry of Education officials were at the school doing testing and offering students and staff the necessary counseling.
Speaking on the issue, Education Minister Octavia Alfred confirmed that a teacher at the school had tested positive and they had taken certain decisions.
“I can confirm that a teacher at the ITSS has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now in isolation at the COVID Center, we have gone to the school to give them the necessary support that is required,” she said.
“We have also taken the decision to temporarily close the school until November 4, 2020, and a further decision will be taken on November 6. In the meantime, we are doing all that we have to do to guide and support the staff and students at the school.”
She urged everyone to continue observing the protocols and guidelines as outlined by the Ministry of Health and to also practice social distancing and the wearing of masks.
