Security Officer locked in room as Forestry Division office was being burglarized

The staff of the Forestry Division situated on Valley Road in Roseau received an unpleasant welcome on arrival to work on the morning of October 10, 2022, when upon entry saw the place completely ransacked.

According to information obtained from Nature Isle News (NIN), the security officer who was on night duty claims that he was held by the intruders who entered the building through windows on the eastern side of the building facing the Roseau River and placed him in a “locked room” and went on a rampage.

We have been informed that the phone lines at the building were cut and the security cameras were also tampered with, and the lines cut.

“I can confirm to you that several items were stolen including passes used at tourist sites, computers, grass cutter, and several other documents,” a source with information on the matter told NIN.

The source revealed that the items stolen in addition to the damaged lines to the telephone and cameras will cost over ten thousand dollars.

The police have confirmed the burglary and said that they are investigating the matter.

In another matter of burglary, the Dominica Football Association (DFA) is investigating a burglary that took place over the weekend on its premises in Bath Estate.

According to reports, a security guard was on duty and a grass cutter and a gas container is missing because of the burglary. No forced entry has been observed.

A cabinet at the office was also ransacked. DFA officials are treating this matter with suspicion and have reported the matter to the police.

“This is very strange since we have a security officer on duty, and the items stolen were all on the floor where the security officer is stationed,” a source told Nature Isle News (NIN).

DFA officials are convinced that the ransacking of the cabinet is clearly a tactic of diversion. The matter is under investigation.
