Philbert Neville Bertrand a consummate police professional

The Cathedral Chapel was filled and outside was braced as family members, friends, colleagues, and well wishes joined together to say “farewell” to Philbert Bertrand who died at the age of 60 after a brief battle with cancer.

Nature Isle News (NIN) has extracted parts of his Eulogy

He was seen by many of his colleagues especially the younger officers as a “go-to” person on how to deal with all sorts of matters. He was like a coach, a mentor. A friend, a big brother, and to some a father. He had also enjoyed a stint as the Instructor at the Police Training School and had earned the affectionate title of “Sarg”. Sergeant.

Of course, his career was not without its share of controversies, but, in the end, justice prevailed.

He will be missed for the way nothing seemed to bother him. His fearlessness, his confidence. His legacy will continue to live on in the lives of all the people he touched in one way or another. The irony of it all is that for someone who so many people seemingly disliked, his passing brought about such emotional reactions from all sorts of people.

One of his usual phrases was, “don’t worry about me…worry about allu selves, I’m all right.”

And with that, he has gone on to do just that-be all right to do bigger and better things and joins the strongest of armies with the company of angels in heaven.

Rest in peace Soldier Berti!
