The Global Campus 2024 Valedictorian Kelian Stedman

KELIAN STEDMAN 2024 CLASS VALEDICTORIAN

Mrs Kelian Stedman is a notable alumnus of The University of the West Indies, Global Campus, having earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education Leadership and Management (Special) with First Class Honours. She currently serves as a Senior Qualified Teacher under the Ministry of Education in the Commonwealth of Dominica. Throughout her tenure at the Global Campus, she was a regular fixture on the student honour roll.

During her teenage years, she developed a deep self-awareness and recognized her creative and expressive talents as essential personal strengths. Motivated by the desire to use these skills to help others, she chose to pursue an associate’s degree in Secondary Education—a decision she holds in high regard. She has dedicated her career to education, gaining extensive experience in both primary and secondary settings. More recently, she has embraced leadership roles, particularly as a Form Level Supervisor at her school. In this capacity, she offers guidance to students and faculty alike, nurturing an environment of academic excellence through her leadership.

Mrs. Stedman’s unwavering commitment to education is profoundly shaped by its pivotal impact on her own life. Hailing from humble beginnings, she understood that education was the key to transcending barriers. This insight drives her passion to instill in her students the firm belief that education can transform lives. It also propels her charitable activities, as she dedicates herself to addressing the needs of the disadvantaged and marginalized within her school and the broader community.

She is dedicated to furthering her journey of empowerment by pursuing a Master’s degree in Inclusive Education. Mrs. Stedman’s experiences at UWI have ignited a passion for law and justice within education. Her goal is to promote diversity, equality, and equity in Caribbean schools, advocating for these values to be central to the education system.

In her personal life, she is sociable and family-oriented, thriving on meaningful interactions. Motivational and inspirational writing is one of her passions, and she looks forward to publishing her first inspirational work in 2025. She lives by the mantra of authenticity, inspired by Proverbs 18:16: “A man’s gift makes room for him” (NKJV). She strongly believes that by embracing our unique talents, skills, and abilities, we can make the most significant positive impact on the world around us.

Mrs. Kelian Stedman, a Teacher at Isaiah Thomas Secondary School, and is the fifth Dominican to attain this honour (following the footsteps of Dareen Pinard, Kirk Edwards, Novenia Issac, and Yehudi John).
