Police in Dominica kept busy over the past few days

Police in Dominica continue to issue a call to motorists to drive with “due care and attention” as the year comes to an end.

Also, they are appealing to persons to solve differences in a “peaceful and harmonious manner” as a video went viral involving a copping incident in the community of Calibishie shortly after 6 pm on December 28, 2023, resulting in the death of a male individual bringing the murder count in Dominica to 18 for the year 2023.

The police are also said to be investigating the death of a Canadian visitor at the Trafalgar Falls on December 28, 2023.

According to reports reaching Nature Isle News (NIN), one member of a group that was canyoning down the falls drowned after attempts to revive that individual failed.

Police confirmed the name of the woman as 28-year-old Karlyn Langridge of British Columbia.

Hit and run

Police also confirmed a “hit and run” incident being investigated that happened on the evening of December 27, 2023, after 10:00 p.m.

A man from Citronier, Owan Joseph, was hit by a vehicle near the Fond Cole Health Center on the E.O. LeBlanc Highway. The driver is reported to have fled the scene, leaving Joseph critically injured. He was rushed to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital for urgent medical care and is now in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The police and Joseph’s family have since issued a plea for the driver to come forward and assist in the investigation.
