BREAKING NEWS-Police threaten action for non-payment of work done during the 2023 World Creole Music Festival (WCMF)

Members of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) are at loggerheads with the Dominica Festivals Commission (DFC) over non-payment of work done by them during the 2023 WCMF.

In a letter obtained by Nature Isle News (NIN) from Police Welfare Association (PWA) Chairman David Andrew Jr to the DFC, the letter captioned “non-payment for special duty performed at the WCFC 2023” expresses “disappointment at the non-payment.

“The executive and members of the PWA, during a special general meeting held on Friday 12th, April 2024, discussed at length the non-payment for duty performed at the WCMF.”

“The general feeling at the meeting was one of disappointment and disrespect to the members of the Dominica Police Force who performed this duty with commitment and the expectation to be paid on time.”

“It is now approaching one (1) year and payment have not been honoured and absolutely no form of communication was forwarded to inform us of the reason (s) why it is taking so long for payments to be made to Police Officers.”

“In this regard, there was a consensus during the meeting that the Festivals Commission should make payment available to police no later than Monday, April 29th, 2024, and at the 2024 edition a down payment of half the amount to be paid in full before the commencement of the festival, your prompt action would be cherished.”

However, according to the PWA despite this letter, no payment has been forthcoming and no acknowledgment of the letter.

“We are studying our next course of action, we have worked and must be paid, this is just total disrespect and that will not be tolerated,” A PWA member told NIN.

“Put it simply, we want our money owed to us for work done for 2023…as simple as that we have our bills to pay and our family to feed, this is just gross disrespect and unacceptable,” a PWA member stated.

Documents seen by NIN show that the Festivals Commission owes the police EC$96,000.00 for work done during the 2023 staging of the World Creole Music Festival.

All efforts at trying to get comments from officials of the Dominica Festivals Commission have so far proven futile.
