Four months after being elected deputy political leader of the United Workers Party (UWP), Senator Delbert Paris has tendered his resignation from that post “with immediate effect.”

Paris was part of the March 19, 2025, meeting of the Dominica Parliament dealing with the passage of the electoral bills, which was unanimously supported by all Parliamentarians.

A Civil engineer by profession, Delbert Paris, was the choice of Anthony Charles, the independent candidate who successfully defeated the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) candidate Gregory Riviere in the December 6 general elections.

Paris was nominated as a “Senator” after the elections by Charles, who won that seat as an Independent candidate.

In the December 2024 Delegates convention, Paris challenged Dr. Thomson Fontaine for the leadership of the UWP but lost. He won the post of Deputy Leader.

Since the passage of the Electoral Commission Act, which was supported by Senator Paris, he has come under increasing pressure from some members of the UWP.

Nature Isle News (NIN) confirmed from close party sources that he tendered his resignation as ‘Deputy political leader of the party” on April 28, 2025, with immediate effect.

“All I can so to you is that he has resigned as deputy leader of the party, he remains a member of the UWP,” the source, who was not allowed to speak on the matter, confirmed to NIN.

So far, we have not been able to get a comment from Senator Paris on the matter.
