
Roseau, Dominica– Five sexual matters head the list of 12 cases now before the court as the commencement of the Criminal trial took place at the High Court in Roseau.
Those committed to stand trial appeared before newly installed High Court Judge Sejilla McDowall on Monday, September 22, 2025, for arraignment, and the charge was read to them.
Section 38 (1) of the Sexual Offences Act prohibits the media from calling the names of those charged under the Sexual Offences Act to protect the identity of the child.
The rest of the matters on the list are two cases (2) of causing death by dangerous driving, one (1) murder, one (1) wounding with intent, two (2) causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and one (1) theft. One of the five persons charged with a sexual offence has pleaded guilty and is now on remand awaiting sentencing.
The eleven (11) other individuals who made court appearances all pleaded not guilty and will have case management of their matters on September 24, 2025.
