PRESS RELEASE
Roseau, Dominica – The Dominica Athletics Association (DAA) is proud to announce that Dominica has officially been confirmed as a beneficiary of the World Athletics Project 10 initiative. This initiative provides support towards the construction of a World Athletics Class 1 synthetic track and field facility in the selected country.
This achievement represents a defining moment for athletics in Dominica and reflects two years of strategic effort, collaboration, and unwavering commitment to advancing sport on the island. In December 2023, the Dominica Athletics Association formally submitted a comprehensive proposal to World Athletics for Dominica to be considered under Project 10. Following two years of consultation, technical assessments, and rigorous evaluation, Dominica has now been finalised as a successful beneficiary—an accomplishment that speaks to the quality of the submission and the nation’s readiness to embrace a world-class athletics facility.
A formal agreement between the Qatar Olympic Committee and World Athletics was recently finalized, officially confirming the delivery of this transformative project, with Dominica proudly among the chosen recipients.
This announcement comes at an opportune moment, as the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica and the Dominica Athletics Association have advanced the development of a master plan for the modern national sports complex, inclusive of a synthetic track and field facility and an Olympic-sized swimming pool. We welcome the partnership of world athletics towards the track component of the overall vision and look forward to working with our partners in this process.
The Dominica Athletics Association expresses profound gratitude to the individuals and agencies whose collaboration made this success possible. Special thanks are extended to Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit and the Office of the Prime Minister, Hon. Oscar George and the Ministry of Sports, Mr. Reggie Severin, and Mr. Billy Doctrove for their guidance, support, and dedication throughout the proposal process. The DAA also acknowledges the many government departments and technical teams whose contributions ensured that Dominica met the stringent requirements of World Athletics, and also takes the opportunity to thank those involved in the ongoing assessments at the proposed site.
This milestone marks the beginning of a new era for athletics in Dominica. With this world-class facility, the nation is poised to elevate athlete development, expand its capacity to host regional and international events, and inspire generations of young athletes to pursue excellence.
The Dominica Athletics Association looks forward to continued partnership with the Government of Dominica, World Athletics, and the Qatar Olympic Committee as we move toward the realization of this landmark project.
