The Belles Combo Benefit Concert promises to be a night of love, culture and celebration, honoring the iconic musicians who helped in heavily shaping the landscape of Dominica’s cadence-lypso and popular music culture. The event will celebrate the indelible legacy of Belles Combo while raising vital support for three of the musicians and one roadie who dedicated their lives to Dominican culture.
Belles Combo was a mainstay of the entertainment landscape, sharing their unique musical skills and talents with communities throughout Dominica and fostering community pride and spirit wherever they played.
Formed way back in the 1960’s to provide musical entertainment on the local scene, the group, then called Embers, was led by the highly versatile Michael Mike Moreau and included young men from Mahaut and Massacre. Belles Combo was among Dominica’s most dynamic musical groups, playing a diverse range of musical styles and genres. They toured many countries in the region as well as Canada, the United States and Colombia, representing Dominica, Creole music and the people of Mahaut with great passion and distinction.
During their more than thirty years together, they produced three LPs and several singles, producing some amazing tracks, many of which are still fan favourites and still being given lots of airplay both in Dominica and especially in the French West Indies.
Funds raised from the October 3rd Concert, including from ticket sales, donor and individual contributions and other sources of revenue, will be presented to the beneficiaries at a special event following the concert. An account with the Mahaut/Jimmit/Tarreau Village Council is now open to receive contributions from fans at home and from the diaspora. Contributions can be sent via Mobanking to the NBD Account number: 100035234; ID Number: 5553727. The account will remain open until November 23 to receive contributions.
The Belles Combo Benefit Concert will feature a line-up of acts including the legendary First Serenade Band with performers including Senator, Joey and Jerry Lloyd, White Fayrie, Janet Azouz and Derek Peter, along with the sensational Colton T, the mighty Swinging Stars, Linford John of Bill-O-Men fame, Julien Riviere – the Caribbean Cowboy, Midnight Groovers, the Belles Combo Tribute Band and local DJ, DJ Rio.
Tickets for the concert, priced at $30 for regular admission and $150 for VIP, are available at J&M Enterprises on Campbell Road, Convenience Plus, Majic Mart and at the Mahaut/Jimmit/Tarreau Village Council in Mahaut and Bull’s Eye Pharmacy in Goodwill.
Music fans in Mahaut and across Dominica are therefore being invited to support the Belles Combo Benefit Concert on Saturday 3 rd October at Zaman Park in Mahaut and to give back to the pride and joy of Mahaut, the Belles Combo.
