Weather Outlook for Dominica and the Lesser Antilles

A weak high pressure is expected to be the dominant feature across the island during the next 24 hours. Occasional cloudiness and a few showers which could be moderate to heavy at times can be expected with possible isolated thunderstorms, particularly during the afternoon. People in areas prone to flooding, landslides, and falling rocks should be on alert.
At 5 am, Category 4 Hurricane Sam was located near 17.2°N, 53.9°W. The system is projected to pass well to the northeast of the northern Leeward Islands, Wednesday into Thursday. From tomorrow, a trough system associated with the hurricane is expected to affect the island.
Meanwhile, an area of low pressure and a tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic both have a high chance of development within the next 2 days. The Met. Service continues to monitor the progress of this system.
Moderate seas are anticipated during the next 24 hours with swells up to 7.0ft, generated by Hurricane Sam expected to affect the eastern coastline. A High Surf Advisory is in effect for above normal seas. Small craft operators, sea bathers, and people living near or traversing coastal areas should exercise caution.
