UPDATE-Male tourist drowns at Champagne

The police have been called and are now investigating what appears to be the drowning of a male tourist in the Champagne area in Pointe Michel.

Nature Isle News (NIN) was at the scene when members of the Dominica Fire & Ambulance Services arrived to retrieve the body.

He was transported to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital along with his wife who was very distraught and in tears.

“American citizen, Howard Taylor, has been identified as the tourist who tragically lost his life in a suspected drowning incident at Champagne Beach, near Pointe Michel.

According to a report from the Police, the 73-year-old and his wife was visiting the island as cruise passenger and went snorkeling in the area when the incident occurred.

“An American tourist from the cruise ship was snorkeling with his wife and others, apparently died while swimming back to shore,” the police stated. He was found unresponsive at sea while trying to swim back to shore…”

Taylor was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
