Government of Dominica awards over $5 Million in new contracts to strengthen agriculture & build Climate resilience

By Press Secretary

The Government of Dominica on Friday, May 16, 2025, awarded multiple project contracts valued at EC$5.25 million under the Emergency Agricultural Livelihoods & Climate Resilience Project (EALCRP) aimed at restoring livelihoods, improving food security, and building resilience against future climate impacts.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy signed eleven (11) works contracts with several local firms during a ceremony at the State House Conference Center.

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy, Hon. Roland Royer said the investments represent the significant effort being made toward the development and modernization of Dominica’s agricultural sector.

“We are looking at over 130 million dollars invested in Dominica’s agriculture and fisheries sectors by this government. These investments are bearing fruit. We have regained market share in our traditional regional markets, production is rising, and agriculture’s contribution to GDP remains the highest in CARICOM at 17%.

“Today’s contract signing represents a continuation of our strategic focus on the productive sectors, including agriculture, fisheries, and tourism,” the Minister said.

He said the government acted swiftly with bold, targeted investments to enable recovery post-Hurricane Maria, surpassing pre-hurricane production levels despite challenges.

“These efforts included rehabilitating farm access roads, providing farm inputs and equipment, and constructing critical agricultural infrastructure. These actions enabled our farmers to bounce back quickly, and we continue to build on that momentum,” he remarked.
