Notice to All Fishers, Aquaculture & Mariculture Farmers

The Dominica Meteorological Service over the past few days has been consistent in forecasting deterioration in weather conditions from Thursday 22nd June 2023. At 1100 am (1500 UTC) today 19th June 2023, the center of Tropical Depression Three was located near latitude 11.0 north, longitude 40.3 west or about 1258 miles east southeast of Dominica. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts.

The Depression is forecasted to strengthen and move across the Lesser Antilles as a Hurricane on Thursday 22nd June and Friday 23rd June 2023 bringing a risk of flooding from heavy rainfalls, hurricane-force winds, and dangerous storm surges and waves.

Please note that no alerts, watches, or warnings are currently in effect for any country within the Lesser Antilles, but this is expected to change within the next 48 hours.

The Fisheries Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy is advising fishers, divers, and small craft operators to secure all fishing equipment, especially boats, fishing gear, outboard engines, and other equipment to avoid unnecessary damage and loss.

Mariculture operations should ensure lines are removed and stored securely away, from surges and waves. Aquaculture farmers are asked to take precautions to mitigate flooding impacts from heavy rains, secure equipment, feed, and other supplies for their operations, and store water for use after any events.

You are also advised to continue to listen to the media and pay attention to any updates from the Dominica Meteorological Services.
