PRESS RELEASE
Roseau, Dominica- April 29, 2025 — Creole Heartbeat, the renowned radio show dedicated to celebrating Caribbean culture and heritage, is proud to announce an exciting new series of Podcast Webinars, beginning Wednesday, April 30th at 11 a.m. on DBS Radio.
Hosted by distinguished Ambassador Prince Wadix and facilitated by Gordon Henderson, whose extensive work in ethnomusicology offers invaluable insights, this series aims to foster a deeper understanding of the rich, complex history of Calypso music in the Caribbean.
This inaugural webinar will challenge common narratives and address often overlooked aspects of Calypso’s history. Discussions will include the Creole language origins, the revolutionary movements of the seventies, and the evolution of musical genres such as Soca and Cadence-lypso. These genres, frequently dismissed or misrepresented within narrow definitions, are vital expressions of Caribbean identity and societal continuity.
“We aim to correct misconceptions and highlight the interconnectedness of Caribbean musical styles,” said Gordon Henderson. “Reducing Calypso and its derivatives to isolated genres or specific eras erases the cultural continuity and social significance that define our musical heritage.”
Listeners are invited to participate in this engaging series that promises to shed light on the true history of Caribbean music—a history that is dynamic, inclusive, and reflective of our collective identity.
Tune in on DBS Radio at 11 a.m. this Wednesday, April 30th, and join us in celebrating the resilience and richness of Caribbean musical traditions.
