2026 has been a good year for veteran calypsonian Chester “Daddy Chess” Letang, who was first crowned Stardom Monarch of the Tent, then Dominica’s Calypso Monarch 2026, and now Road March winner 2026.
According to Public Relations Officer (PRO)of the Dominica Calypso Association (DCA) Peter Letang, Daddy Chess’s song “Roof Leakin” garnered a total of 101 plays on the road, with Nachel in second place with 51 plays, followed by Tasha P with 33 plays, Kalfa P with 29 plays, and Mystrie in fifth place with 18 plays.
The PRO claims that since taking office in October 2026, it has been a period marked by “dedication and strategic execution,” as it had to quickly get things together to stage the elimination, the quarterfinals, and the semifinals, and then the Calypso finals.
“Despite this, I can say that we managed to conduct eliminations on December 13, 2025, followed by quarterfinals on January 17, 2026, semifinals on January 31, 2026, and culminating in the grand finals on February 14, 2026,” he said.
“Throughout the season, the productions have showcased a competitive landscape that keeps carnival vibrant and engaging for participants and audiences alike.”
Looking ahead, he states that the DCA executive recognizes the importance of reflection and strategic planning.
“All in all, I think the calypso season went well. We have to now meet as an executive, see our strong points, our low points, and improve for next year,” Letang stated.
