Akim Ismael, the master baker behind Mahaut’s beloved ADI Creations, has risen to sweet success at the first Caribbean Baking Awards held this past weekend in Tortola, BriƟsh Virgin Islands. Ismael not only secured the prestigious first place in the
overall baking competition but was also the recipient of the Rising Star and Cake Hero awards, which were determined by popular vote online.

The competition showcased the finest bakers from across the Caribbean, and Ismael’s excellent skills and creativity truly distinguished him, ultimately earning him the highest
accolade of the event. The event kicked off on February 16 with a Cake & Wine TasƟng Showcase, where Cake Arsts from across the Caribbean unveiled their stunning creaƟons under the vibrant theme of “CARIBBEAN VIBES.” Participating bakers were tasked with incorporaƟng colors or showcasing elements of their island culture, along with providing a historical narrative of their respective islands through their intricately designed 2 or 3-entered cakes.

Ismael’s winning cake, infused with a secret ingredient of gooseberry jam and pulp expertly
prepared by Kervin Vidal of KV’s Delights and Patricia Emanuel, made a profound impact on both the distinguished panel of judges and the enthusiastic public. Its exquisite blend of flavors and meticulous craftsmanship leave an enduring impression, solidifying Ismael’s place among the Caribbean’s top culinary talents.

The culmination of the event took place on February 17 with a grand award ceremony where Ismael clinched his well-deserved win.
Humbled and honoured by his triumphant victory, Ismael emphasized that winning these awards was not solely a personal achievement but also a resounding testament to his team’s relentless hard work and unwavering dedication and support from those who stood behind him. “I want to thank everyone who supported me, those who voted online, my sponsors, my team, my employer, the Convent High School, and my family and friends. I am thrilled to have copped the overall prize in this competition and I am proud that I represented Dominica to the best of my ability,” he expressed.

He further stated that participating in such a prestigious competition was an invaluable learning experience, one that will undoubtedly ignite and intensify his passion for baking. As he continues to hone his craft and push the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of baking, he remains steadfast in his pursuit of excellence.
A dynamic team from Dominica accompanied Ismael, Jodie Dublin-Dangleben of

Jaydees Naturals, Tamara Lewis-Celestine, Jodie Shillingford-Trew from Jodie’s Sweet Art, and Leandra Lander from Lovelee Things.
