Mahaut, Dominica: February 1, 2024 — Organisers of the Opening of Carnival in the community of Mahaut set for this Sunday, February 4, 2024, are promising patrons and carnival lovers, a spectacular and fun-filled entertainment package to usher in the carnival in that west coast.
The national spotlight will fall on the lively community of Mahaut, with thousands of carnival revelers from across the country expected to descend on the village for an evening of great entertainment and the joy and spirit of the Dominica carnival experience for the 2024 season.
Mahaut, known for its lively and riveting carnival culture, will be adding to the flavor of the Real Mas, with infectious music, traditional masquerade forms, and passionate revelers in what is expected to be one of the highlights of the 2024 Mas Domnik’s season.
Organizers of the Mahaut Carnival Opening 2024, one of several to take place as a prelude to the celebrations of the Real Mas on Monday 12th, and Tuesday 13th February are setting the stage for an unforgettable and highly entertaining Opening. The main highlights of the Mahaut Opening of Carnival 2024 will include the infectious rhythms of two of Dominica’s most recognizable and dynamic bands, the TK International (TK) and Signal Band, along with DJ Rio of Mahaut, the Mahaut Bouyon Lapo Kabwit Band, Next Generation Band, Sakis and a full complement of local masquerade bands and carnival enthusiasts.
The parade of participating groups and individual masqueraders will begin at 3:00 p.m. from the famous Lab next to the St. Paul’s Credit Union Building and down to Zaman Park in lower Belfast. Revelers are expected to be on the parade route to be accompanied firstly by DJ RIO, then by Signal Band and finally, jamming to the powerful sound of TK International.
The Mahaut Carnival Opening forms part of carnival celebrations in that community, with activities expected on Jourvert and “jump-up” on both Carnival Monday and Tuesday. Organizers hope for a peaceful and incident-free carnival celebration and the fullest participation of villagers and others in the 2024 carnival season.
A team of local carnival enthusiasts organizing the 2024 Mahaut Carnival celebrations, the Mahaut Jimmit Tarreau Village Council, and with the support and primary sponsorship by the Parliamentary Representative for the Mahaut Constituency, Cassanni Laville.
