Budget Day in Dominica July 26

Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has disclosed the date for the reading of the 2024/2025 National Budget.

“I wish to inform the nation that the 2024/2025 Budget address will be delivered on Friday, July 26, 2024, by the Minister of Finance Dr. Irvin McIntyre,” Skerrit stated.

“Like always, we will seek to present a fiscal package that responds to the social and economic realities of our citizens with policies designed to make a positive impact on their lives and livelihoods taking into consideration the current global realities.”

He continued, “The fact is, the world over, countries are grappling with economic fallouts geopolitical conflicts disease, and disasters which have resulted in inflation loss of income, and an increase in neo-quality.”

According to Skerrit, in Dominica, we are not immune to these economic shocks however, we have persisted in investing in social safety nets and a productive sector to counteract those adverse impacts and to also keep our people in jobs.

“We are also pursuing several big projects (international airport, geothermal project, Cabrits Marina to name a few) all to drive economic growth into the sector and to take us closer to the dynamic Dominica that we are all envisaging,” he remarked.

“This year’s budget will focus on our efforts on the gains we have made in recent years and outline priorities and measures to further stimulate economic activities, create employment, and improve long-term efficiency in the administration of our country’s affairs.”

“The Minister of Finance is also expected to outline a new structure for the nursing service in Dominica with the creation of several new positions that will allow for the upward mobility of our nurses and recognize their specialized training.”

“We have listened to the recommendations of persons who have participated in the recent pre-budget consultation and I believe that this budget has something in it to benefit every citizen. I am confident, that the Dominican people will be pleased with the budget presentation and its contents,” Skerrit stated.
