Senior Magistrate Michael Laudat, sitting in Court Number Two, has expressed his “disgust and disappointment” at being unable to hear matters on Monday, May 12, 2025, and was forced to adjourn court to May 13, 2025.
Persons summoned to court for that date were told that the two police officers assigned to prosecute in court number two were absent ( one on leave and the other reported sick), leaving the court stranded with no prosecutor.
“This is unheard of,” The Magistrate, clearly annoyed and disappointed, bellowed from the Bench.
According to him, what was even more annoying was the fact that the Court Administrator called the officer of the Acting Chief of Police to inform him of the situation and was told, “The Chief of Police has to go to a meeting now.”
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Sherma Dalrymple and her other lawyer staff are presently at the High Court conducting a murder trial.
“I am issuing an Order to have the Chief of Police Acting and the Director of Public Prosecutions to appear before me at 9 am on Tuesday May 13, 2025, to show cause as to why the court was left stranded without a Police Prosecutor on Monday May 12, 2025,” Magistrate Laudat stated.
He then asked the Court crier to adjourn court to Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 9 am. In the meantime, all persons who had matters before him in Court number two had to get a new date.
