Nature Isle News (NIN) has been informed that Lennox Linton has resigned as President of the United Workers Party (UWP).
An executive member of the UWP confirmed to NIN “that Linton submitted his letter of resignation as President of the party to Nicholas George, the General Secretary of the party.”
“Yes, I can confirm to you his resignation, and it was submitted to the General Secretary…that is all I can say to you,” the top executive, who asked not to be named, told NIN.
Nature Isle News made several telephone calls to the General Secretary of the party, Nicholas George, and also to Lennox Linton; however, those calls were not answered.
In December 2024, the party held its delegates’ convention, and Linton was re-elected as president of the party. The party in April 2025 was met with the sudden resignation of Senator Delbert Paris, who was elected in December as the deputy political leader.
He was first elected as the Representative for the Marigot constituency in the House of Assembly of Dominica on 8 December 2014. He served as Leader of the Opposition from 22 December 2014 until the 6 December 2022 snap general election and as Leader of UWP from 1 September 2013 until his resignation on 3 October 2022.
On September 1, 2013, Linton was elected Leader of the United Workers’ Party (UWP). On December 8, 2014, he was elected Parliamentary Representative for the Marigot Constituency and was sworn in as Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition later that month.
Linton served as leader of UWP until his resignation on October 3, 2022. On November 22, 2022, Linton was named President of the party, and Thomson Fontaine became the new leader of UWP.
Inconsequential. His political value to the UWPwee had already long dissipated into irrelevance. His resignation (not necessarily translated to mean “absence”) will also have little or zero impact. The UWPwee is decaying faster than any social media shenanigans by Spaggs, Fontaine et al can save it.
