A Prison Officer is presently in police custody as police investigate the seizure of weapons brought in for an inmate at the Dominica State Prison (DSP).
Nature Isle News (NIN) can confirm that members of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) acting on a tip-off went to the Prison where the Prison Officer was arrested and is now in the custody of the police.
On June 11, 2025, National Security Minister Rayburn Blackmoore expressed concerns that illegal drugs and weapons were finding their way to inmates at the prison and that the government had invested in scanning machines where Prison Officers, along with their bags, would be “scanned on entry and exit at the prison.”
Meanwhile, police have confirmed that “An investigation is currently ongoing regarding a criminal allegation at the State Prison involving prohibited articles.”
“After the investigation thus far, a charge will be levied against him, and he will appear before the court as soon as possible,” the Police stated.
