Dominica records yet another COVID-19 case

Coordinator of the COVID-19 Border Control Dr. Laura Esprit revealed that since the last press briefing, on September 8, 2020, there is now one (1) additional case of COVID-19 in Dominica.

“The traveler is a Dominican national who returned from the United States of American (USA) last week with a PCR test result which was deemed “invalid,” she said.

“Swabbing was done at the secondary screening site at the Douglas-Charles Airport before transfer of the traveler to the government operated quarantine facility. A PCR test result subsequently came in positive for COVID-19 and the client was immediately transferred and admitted to the COVID Unit for medical management.”

Dr. Esprit disclosed that “all passengers onboard that said flight have been retested.”

According to her, confirmed COVID-19 cases on the island since September 8, 2020, is one (1), total active cases at present are four (4), total recovered cases in Dominica 21 of which three (3) have recovered from the last grouping of positive cases. The number of deaths zero and the total number of COVID-19 cases since the pandemic is 25.

“The ministry of health has seen it fit to establish a COVID hotline team as well as an appointment operator the object is to facilitate prompt information to and from persons who may have COVID like symptoms, to clarify concerns of both nationals and visitors and to serve as a liaison between the public and relevant authorities,” she stated.

“From March 23, 2020, to present the hotline has received a total of 1,563 calls of which 790 were from July 15, 2020, when the borders reopened. Additional the appointment operator from May 1, 2020, to present has received a total of 6,922 calls, it must be noted that this does not take into consideration other calls fielded by other extensions, offices, and private numbers from the Ministry of Health staff.

She called on the general public to please be considerate with these officers as they try their best to assist everyone in a timely and professional manner.
