Julian Xavier, a 61-year-old Grand Bay man is expected to appear before the Roseau Magistrate Court on May 21, 2024, formally charged with the murder of his brother.
On the evening of May 15, 2024, Julian and 70-year-old Stanislus Xavier also known as Ashely were in an altercation at Grand Bay during which time the accused allegedly struck his brother with a lumber in the head resulting in serious head injuries.
According to police sources, the deceased was transported to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) where he underwent emergency surgery and was later admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). However, on May 17, Stanislus succumbed to his injuries and was officially pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
On May 17, Julian surrendered to the police at Police Headquarters and after the investigation, the charge of murder was preferred against him.
The accused will appear before a Magistrate, where the charge will be read to him. He is not required to enter a plea, as murder is an indictable offense that can only be tried before a Judge and jury.
Nature Isle News (NIN) will continue to follow this story and report any new developments as it unfolds.
I’m not saying what he did to his brother was the right thing to do but a question should be asked of the officers at the Grand Bay police station and the numerous reports that the accused has made against the deceased yet nothing was done. Had they intervined it wouldn’t have come to this
