Joshua Francis former UWP Deputy leader salutes contribution of Lennox Linton as UWP leader

All the best Mr. Linton,

The news that Mr. Linton has resigned as the political leader of the United Workers Party (UWP)….

I am appreciative to have been given the opportunity to work with Mr. Linton, a journey filled with lessons and blessings.

Looking back on the past 10 years, it has been an exceptionally interesting period of lessons learned, beyond textbooks. We have had to deal with unusual election cycles and events but in our losses, we gained respect for our resistance to deception, irregularities, and maneuverings.

It is not my intention to list out all that we have accomplished, gains and losses I believe they speak for themselves. But rather, I would like to take this opportunity to wish the gentleman all the best.

In the face of a  struggling world, I am confident that had we been granted the opportunity to serve at the highest level, with a unity of purpose and the strive for consensus, we would have had the capacity to act to address national issues in a timely and constructive manner. But it was not meant to happen as a duo with our team.

Though we have had a common resolve to touch lives meaningfully, it was not meant for me to serve with Mr. Linton as your deputy Prime Minister.

Nonetheless, I have no doubt that moving forward with the building of bridges and the forging of common grounds and engagement of all stakeholders, including NGOs, will determine, to a significant extent, how successful I or any politician will be in carrying out the manifolds entrusted upon him/her.

Recognizing our diversity and having mutual respect for different views and opinions, needs to be at the heart of the constructive dialogue and cooperation that we seek to promote the welfare of Dominicans.

The curtain as a political leader in this season has been drawn, but Mr. Linton’s contribution is marked eternally on the national walls of history.

And whether Mr. Linton reconsiders his decision and presents himself to contest for leadership again at UWP’s next delegate conference, his contribution reigns.

May Jehovah God be with you and your family Sir.

Salute!

Joshua Francis
