Mandatory mask wearing removed in Dominica

Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has taken to the airwaves to announce that his government has taken a decision to remove the mandatory mask mandate in Dominica.

The government under the Environmental Act had made it “mandatory” to wear masks on the island and those who fail to so do risk being criminally prosecuted.

“At a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, Cabinet took a decision to remove the masked mandate in Dominica. So there is no more a legal requirement for anyone in Dominica to wear a mask,” Skerrit said.

He explained that the decision was taken “recognizing the trend in numbers…we are also saying, that you are free to wear your mask if you so wish.”

“However, we have maintained that the people who are involved in the food and beverage business should be wearing their masks when they are serving their patrons. This will also become a permanent fixture in the insurance of food and license permits in Dominica,” he stated.
