UPDATE-Police Officer arrested for illegal firearm possession

A police constable has been arrested and is expected to be charged with the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

According to a well-placed source within the police force, the Officer was detained after he was seen receiving a firearm from someone who is not a holder of a firearms and ammunition license.

Fletcher Jean was formally arrested and charged with “possession of a firearm without being the holder of a firearms license and obstruction.”

He is represented by lawyer Wayne Norde in the matter.

Nature Isle News (NIN) can further report, that the firearm in question, is NOT a government-issued firearm and the Officer in question is also NOT the holder of a private license firearm.

During the bail application, the prosecution led by Vivian Augustine told the Magistrate that in considering bail, he needs to look at the “Bail Act” which speaks about the “public interest”

Norde urged the court to grant bail to his client who is not a flight risk and has always been a respectable police officer.

Magistrate Laudat after hearing both sides has reserved his decision until later this afternoon.

BAIL GRANTED

Police Constable Fletcher Jean along with co-accused Clits Joseph jointly charged by the police with possession of a firearm without being the holder of a firearms license and also obstruction have been granted bail by Magistrate Michael Laudat in the sum of $45,000.00 each.

The matter has been adjourned to July 10, 2023.
