DOMLEC apologizes to customers for unscheduled power interruption

The Dominica Electricity Services Ltd (DOMLEC) the island’s lone electricity company has issued an apology to its customers for an island-wide electricity outage on Sunday, November 14, 2021.

In a statement from the General Manager of the company Bertillia LeBlanc McKenzie, she states that the company extends sincere apologies to customers across Dominica for the inconvenience caused by the power outage.

“According to information from the engineering, transmission, and distribution department, a plant routine maintenance outage was scheduled for Sunday morning, the communities to be affected were notified,” she said.

“However, during the switching procedure, DOMLEC experienced a system-wide outage, (i.e.) all customers island-wide were affected, our team worked as quickly as possible and impacted customers were quickly restored within three hours.”

McKenzie revealed, that it is the company’s practice to customers via the radio station and our social media platform of all planned outages.

“We know that an interruption in electricity services is inconvenient to our customers even when it is planned, so we ensure that we advise customers ahead of time and we work to minimize the frequency and duration of the outage, LeBlanc McKenzie stated.

“We know that our customers count on us for a reliable and safe delivery of power every day and we maintain systems and invest in upgrades and ensure the customers’ needs are met.”

She stated that “system-wide incidences such as these though rare, can occur.”

“On behalf of the DOMLEC team I apologize for the interruptions and for most customers unexpected interruption, DOMLEC is investigating the incident and will enact any changes in processes required to minimize the likelihood of any incidents going forward,” she stated.
