National conference aims to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience

PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD – 30th March 2024 – The inaugural Trinidad and Tobago Disaster Risk Management (TTDRM) Conference and Expo 2024 has received crucial endorsements from key disaster management agencies. The Conference is officially supported by the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM), the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government, and the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), along with the backing of AMCHAM Trinidad and Tobago.

Taking place from June 3rd-5th, 2024 at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain, TTDRM 2024 will provide a vital forum for stakeholders across public and private sectors and NGOs to address disaster risk reduction challenges facing Trinidad and Tobago. The conference is designed to enhance collaborative efforts and foster partnerships between government, businesses, NGOs, and communities for more efficient disaster preparedness and response.

Additionally, the conference will seek to foster innovation by exploring new technological advancements in emergency management technologies and best practices for disaster risk reduction. One of the expected outcomes will be to build a more resilient nation by developing actionable strategies to boost infrastructure resilience, strengthen early warning systems, and protect vulnerable populations.

“The endorsements from these pivotal agencies validate the urgency and importance of this conference,” said Stacey-Ann Pi Osoria, Visionary for TTDRM. “With an increasing frequency of natural hazards, it is time to take proactive steps. TTDRM 2024 is a platform to build partnerships, learn from global best practices, and create solutions that safeguard our communities and businesses.”

The Conference and Expo is also pleased to announce key sponsors: Deployed Logix, Presray Critical Containment Solutions, Tropical Shipping, Water and Earth Technologies, The Trinidad Building and Loan Association, and The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited. Their support demonstrates a commitment to building a more resilient future for Trinidad and Tobago.

TTDRM 2024 will explore themes such as cybersecurity and incorporating the special needs of the disadvantaged in disaster response planning. Attendees can expect expert speakers, interactive Learning Labs, and a showcase of innovative technologies.
