National Hurricane Center watching system in east-central Atlantic

The US-based National Hurricane Center said on Thursday that it has begun watching a disturbance in the east-central Atlantic.

It added, however, that there is a low chance of the system developing and it is expected to dissipate soon.

The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane season is expected to be very active, according to a forecast published earlier this month by the Colorado State University Tropical Meteorology Project team.

During the predictions, the forecasters said it is likely that there will be a more than 50 percent increase in storms of all categories, most of which are expected to make landfall within the Caribbean and mainland United States.

The Atlantic Hurricane season begins June 1 and runs until November 30, however, systems can form outside of these dates.
