My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Speaker Emeritus Alix Boyd-Knights who departed without notice.
Alix was best known as a Dominican politician and attorney who was the Speaker of the House of Assembly from 2000 to 2020.
I served as an Elected Member of the House of Parliament between 2014 and 2019. My best personal remembrance of her as chair of the house is for interrupting my presentations for “imputing improper motive”.
She once called me via phone to discuss my article titled, “rape in Marriages”.
Boyd Knights was first elected Speaker on 17 April 2000 and was re-elected on 27 July 2005, 4 February 2010 and 20 February 2015. Upon her election to a third term on 4 February 2010, she became the longest-serving Speaker in Dominica’s history.
She was once considered by the ruling Dominica Labour Party to be the president of the Commonwealth of Dominica but voluntarily withdrew as a nominee. (2015).
Alix Boyd Knights was my colleague, an Attorney at Law.
She will also be remembered for her contribution to Dominica’s legal architecture in the area of family law.
She has served and her life has been adjourned SINE DIE! (The day of the Lord no man knows).
May she rest in eternal peace.
Joshua Francis.
