
Nature Isle News (NIN) has learnt of the passing of a former retired Superintendent of Prisons, Algernon Anthony Charter.
Algie, as he was most affectionately known by many, was the recipient of the Long Service Medal of Honour by the Dominican government.
Minister of National Security Rayburn Blackmoore says, Charter, who worked in the prison department for 35 years before he demitted office. “He was a tower of strength at the Dominica Prison, and during his 35 years, he worked tirelessly to improve the conditions at the prison,” Blackmoore stated.
“We are indeed saddened by his passing and extend deepest condolences to his wife, children, the prison population where he worked for many years, and also to his entire family in this trying and difficult time…May His Soul Rest in Peace.”
