President Savarin expresses sadness at the passing of former member of Parliament Francois Barrie

President of Dominica His Excellency Charles A. Savarin has expressed “sadness” on hearing of the passing of former Member of the Dominica Parliament Francois Barrie.

Barrie passed at his residence in the Kallinago Territory on September 3, 2023.

In a statement released the President stated, “I was deeply saddened upon hearing of the passing on Sunday, September 3, 2023, of former Member of Parliament Francois Barrie at his residence in Salybia after ailing for some time.”

Mr. Barrie who spent most of his working life in the teaching profession, also made his contribution in the area of politics having contested the 1990, 1995, and 2000 General Elections. He served the Kallinago residents and the people of Atkinson in the Parliament of Dominica after winning the Salybia Constituency seat in the 1993 By-Election and again in the 1995 General Election on a United Workers Party (UWP) ticket.

He also served as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs, and Sports following the UWP’s victory in the 1995 poll. He was an avid lover of the sport of cricket.

Mr. Barrie will be remembered for his contribution to the areas of education, politics, community development, and sports.

The Government and people of the Commonwealth of Dominica join Mrs. Savarin and myself in conveying our deepest condolences to his bereaved wife Mildred, his children and grandchildren, the Kallinago community, the teaching and sports fraternities, his close friends and relatives, on this very sad occasion.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
