Prime Minister Skerrit extends condolences to the family of Bram and Kyan Joseph

Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit has extended condolences on behalf of his government, to the family of late Dominican athlete, Bram Sanderson and also to the grieving family of Kyan Brent Joseph in the wake of a tragic road accident on August 13, 2023, involving his son (Malik).

At a press conference on August 14, Prime Minister Skerrit stated, “As you all know, my son was involved in a vehicular accident yesterday and one of the persons involved has lost his life.”

“I want to extend my sincerest condolences as I have done privately to the family of Mr. Kyan Joseph. I cannot say much on this matter but I want to express publicly my heartfelt condolences and solidarity to his family.”

In extending condolences to the family of Bram Sanderson who is originally from Wesley, Dominica, “We extend sympathies to the sporting fraternity and all who mourn his passing. We also wish a speedy recovery to the second accident victim, a Dominican who, according to media reports, remains in critical condition at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre in Antigua,” Skerrit stated.

“Bram Sanderson will be remembered not just for his passion for sports, but also for the constant positivity and encouragement he offered to everyone he encountered. He will be truly missed by many,”

The Dominica Olympic Committee and Dominica Commonwealth Games Association Executive, Staff, and Affiliated Associations have also offered their condolences to the friends and family of the late Bram Sanderson.

Information from the police is that at about 12:30 p.m, on August 13, 2023, Joseph, aged 27 of Gutter Village who resided in Tarish Pit, was riding his motorcycle west from Grand Bay on the Bellevue Chopin Road; at the same time, Malik Skerrit was driving a Mitsubishi Outlander in the opposite direction.

“The motorcycle and the vehicle collided resulting in serious injuries to Joseph and his female pillion rider. Joseph was transported to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) for medical treatment. However, later that same day, he succumbed to the severe injuries he had sustained. His female companion is nursing injuries at the DCFH,” the police report stated. Skerrit received no significant injuries from the incident.
