PRESS RELEASE
The Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) extends its warmest and most heartfelt fraternal greetings to our esteemed sister party, the Dominica Labour Party (DLP), as you celebrate the monumental occasion of your 70th anniversary. This is a truly significant milestone, marking seven decades of unwavering dedication, profound sacrifice, and remarkable achievement in the service of the Dominican people.
From our vantage point in Saint Lucia, we have watched with admiration and pride as the DLP has navigated the complex currents of political life, consistently upholding the principles of social justice, equality, and national development. Your journey over the past 70 years is a testament to the enduring vision of your founders and the tireless efforts of generations of leaders and party members who have committed their lives to the betterment of Dominica.
The DLP’s legacy is etched in the very fabric of Dominican society. Your party has been instrumental in shaping the nation’s political landscape, advocating for policies that have empowered citizens, fostered economic growth, and strengthened democratic institutions. We recognize the significant milestones you have achieved, from leading Dominica to independence to spearheading initiatives that have improved education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social welfare for countless Dominicans. These achievements are not merely political victories; they represent tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary people, reflecting the DLP’s deep-rooted commitment to the well-being of all.
As sister parties within the wider Caribbean progressive movement, the SLP shares a common ideological heritage with the DLP. We understand the challenges and triumphs that come with striving for a more equitable and prosperous society. Our shared values, rooted in the principles of democratic socialism, have long bound us together in solidarity. We have drawn inspiration from your resilience in the face of adversity, particularly your steadfastness in rebuilding Dominica after devastating natural disasters, always with an unwavering focus on the human element.
This 70th anniversary is not just a moment for reflection on past glories but also an opportunity to look to the future with renewed purpose and determination. The SLP is confident that the Dominica Labour Party will continue to be a leading force in national development, adapting to new challenges and seizing new opportunities to advance the interests of the Dominican people further.
On behalf of the leadership, members, and supporters of the Saint Lucia Labour Party, I extend sincerest congratulations to the Dominica Labour Party on this momentous 70th anniversary. May your celebrations be filled with joy, pride, and a renewed sense of purpose. I, and the SLP, look forward to many more years of strong fraternal ties and collaborative efforts in building a brighter future for our respective nations and the wider Caribbean region. I salute your enduring legacy and wish you continued success in the years to come.
On a more personal note, I wish to reiterate my profound thanks to you, Comrade Roosevelt Skerritt, for your friendship over the years, a friendship which began long before my ascension to the Prime Ministership of my country. Your advice and counsel have proved invaluable along my political journey. Comrade Roosevelt, you have been a source of inspiration and guidance for which I am eternally grateful. Like Dominica, Saint Lucia is a State vulnerable to natural disasters, and your resilience in leading Dominica through the several devastating hurricanes has given me the fortitude to face whatever may befall my island home. My friend, you have proven to be an example to many Caribbean leaders by your ability to rebuild and modernize Dominica and drive economic progress even in the face of adversity. But my respect for you, Comrade Roosevelt, extends. Beyond policy and I can recount the several moments of personal support and encouragement that shaped my leadership journey. I thank you, Comrade Roosevelt, and I am proud to call you my friend.
