Stanley “Stalky” John KC sworn in as SVG’s new Governor General

Stanley “Stalky” John was on Tuesday sworn in as St Vincent’s eighth Governor General. John, a distinguished lawyer and former politician, now holds the nation’s highest office.

John’s career is anchored in a formidable legal reputation built over decades. His exceptional expertise was formally recognized with his appointment as one of His Majesty’s King’s Counsel (K.C.), an honour he received as a Queen’s Counsel in February 2014.

This acclaim rests on a solid educational foundation; he attained a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) with honours from University College London (UCL) in 1976 and was admitted as a Barrister of Grays Inn in 1977. Having a G.G with such a deep and celebrated understanding of the law brings a unique level of constitutional insight to the nation’s highest office.

Beyond his legal practice, John possesses significant hands-on experience in the political arena of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. His career in public service includes serving as a Senator from 1984 to 1989 and later as a Parliamentary Representative from 1998 to 2001. Perhaps most notably, he also served as the Leader of the St. Vincent Labour Party between 1992 and 1994.
