Another Haitian National arrested in ongoing Inland Revenue fraud investigations

The police have arrested yet another Haitian national as the probe surrounding investigations involving forged driver’s licenses and receipts continues.

Wildy Aurelien who resides at Bath Estate is charged for that he, between April 6 & 15, 2022 with intent to defraud did utter a certain printed document namely “one payment form for the private driver’s license number 5691200 in the name of the said Wildy Aurelien, knowing the same to be forged.”

He is also charged with being in possession without lawful authority or excuse a certain forged document namely, “one payment form for the private driver’s license number 5691200 knowing the same to be forged.”

He is represented in the matter by Joshua Francis of the law chambers of Joshua Francis and was granted bail. The matter was adjourned to February 26, 2023.

Earlier in the week, Jed Shipley a staff at the Inland Revenue appeared before the court on several charges relating to uttering and forgery. He is now on $35,000.00 bail, and was asked to surrender his travel documents to the court, not interfere with potential witnesses, and report twice weekly to the St. Joseph Police Station. Two other Haitians have also been arrested and charged for similar offenses and are out on bail.

Second Arson accused denied bail

Kimon Scotland aged 21 years of Layou has been remanded at the Stock Farm Prison after his application for bail was denied by Chief Magistrate Candia Carette-George.

Police prosecutor Inspector Davidson Cadette told the court that the offense is “serious” and that the accused man attempted to set fire to a “public institution with law enforcement officers.”

He also stated that if found guilty the penalty was high and he posed a potential flight risk. He further argued that it was not in the public’s interest to grant him bail.

He is represented by Peter Alleyne in the matter. The Chief Magistrate said that after having listened to both sides and considering the severity of the offense and the penalty attached it was not in the public’s interest to “at this time grant him bail.”

The matter she stated will be reviewed towards the end of November 2022.

Another accused man Niguel Anthony, a 19-year-old male from the community of St. Joseph is also on remand at the Dominica State Prison following a charge of arson preferred against him by the police.

During the wee hours of September 12, 2022, a certain section of the St. Joseph police station as well as the police vehicle for that station was allegedly set ablaze.

Following investigations by the police, Anthony was arrested and charged. He appeared before the Roseau Magistrate court on September 19, where the charge was read to him, and denied bail.
